Firstly thank you to every one who entered...any one of the banners would have made a worthy winner.

Rhonda and I have decided that the poll has been open long enough and that means voting is closed and we have a winner.

We are pleased to announce that entry no 1...

not to be rude or anything as it is a nice banner but I think it should be re made but a bit bigger because when its being used (as it is right now) it looks kind of distorted and blurry, thats because it needed to stretch the original image out to fill the area that its currently in.

Phoenix - January 30, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
It has already been made a lot larger and clearer to suit this width forum.. :)

You might just need to refresh the page or clear out the browser cache

Candor0 - January 30, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
Did you re do it or stretch it out?..

Phoenix - January 30, 2006 04:26 PM (GMT)
No i resized the entire image.. I also digitally enhanced the larger image to make it more crisp and clear..

Candor0 - January 30, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)
that can be done by the click of a button on paint shop pro.. whats needed for the image to look 100% proper is a new image in total, except a bigger one in this case. (and never save images in JEPG format it makes them look distorted, that could be part of the problem)

Phoenix - January 30, 2006 09:28 PM (GMT)
hehe as i said before i resized the image, this involves resaving the image from the origanl work to a new size larger then was orginally saved before.. So ive already done what you have said..

Also to do what i did to make it clearer takes more then a few clicks of a button if your doing it properly.. PSP is good but is limited in a lot of ways..

Also i have to disagree with you on the JPG format as this format is the best file choice when saving an image that is high resolution and has millions of colors.. The only other one that is better then JPG is TIF but the latter is used for much larger files as jpg has a brilliant compression ratio for photo's on the net.. TIF is best served in Kodak Photo CD type software..

However if you are saving a transparent image the best choice would be PNG as this like JPG is able to retain high res images with millions colors.. Unlike gif files as they are low res with only 256 colors..

Meh but just dont take my word for it.. even though i been doing graphics and design for years.. Just do a google and read up on your file type descriptions, This will also tell you the same.. :)

try saving it in a bit map file and see the diff and bitmap files can be saved in 16, 24, and 256 bit colour resolution.

Bit Map files allways give a crisp clear picture where as JPEG eather show a blurred image or distorted, try it for your self.

JPEG is only used on websites in most cases because it takes up alot less space then bit map, but the visibility doesn't look near as good.

LOL i dont need to try out bitmaps i know what a bitmap qaulity is like however may i remind you that this is a website and not an art portfolio on disk.. So the use of bitmaps is not practical for websites.

Jpg offers the best solution in retaining as much picture resolution as possible, with a 95% quality compression ratio.. This is the best method for website graphics or headers..

Anyways lets not turn this into a debate about graphic compression.. The image has been enlarged and enhanced, there is no distortion, pixelation or any other problem with it now.. The problem has been fixed.

Actually i like bitmaps, even though this isn't an art portfolio it should still look respectable, its what attracts people to join.
