Wednesday night show - James Blundell, Gina Jeffreys, Wendy Matthews and finally Guy Sebastian!
What a show! I was seated in the 1st tier and got to see them add rows just before the start of the show, it was not only totally booked out, they put in extra!! Awesome show, wish it were on DVD or TV. James Blundell was perfect as the opener, he brought such a vibe and energy, sort of set the theme for the whole. If you can ever get to his shows, don't miss!
Gina Jeffreys is awesome too. Beautiful, vivacious, funny, totally warm and wonderful and THEN on top of that, an awesome vocal talent too. Had to grab her album even tho I was broke LOL. Knew my dear hubby would love it.
Wendy Matthews of course is just an amazing vocalist. Her power just blows you off your seat!
Interspersed as BVs (LOL!!) were Beccy Cole, Adam Brand, Kasey Chambers and I think Peter Green (??) good soul artist, James is mentoring him to a point.
Anyhow the vibes were fizzing, the whole show created an enormous buzz and the audience were stomping in their seats and yelling, where appropriate. - Then intermission.
Guy came on, tartan check shirt and black singlet and lit up the second half. Awesome stuff, the sizzle of this show just continued to lift. The guy alongside me, who'd been stomping his feet NOT in time for the whole of the 1st half, finally stopped and just leaned forward for most of the show, in between clapping and cheering madly!
Guy did sing "Bring Yourself" when he played keys, beautiful job, he and Adam played up "Stuck in the Middle", the show was full of fun bits and joking around. Rod McCormack, Gina's husband, who also produced Adams album, and Gina's and played every instrument on her's, had organised the band which was SUPERB 5 stars!! Carl Dimataga, Guy's usual guitarist joined for his half, so the music was - well, I'm lost for more superlatives.
It was a who's who, who attended. As we went to go in, people were streaming in, trying to get tix. There was a signing afterwards but as the show went to around 11.30, it began to get a little difficult for everyone to get their cds etc signed. SO there were reminders that there was other stuff happening throughout the rest of the week.
Guy did a reading at the library, Sebastian in a Hat (wombat baby brought up in a hat, as he'd lost his mum) and a hungry caterpillar who turned into a butterfly. Very funny, Guy's a natural and so clear, lovely to hear him speak and involve the kids in it all, they were yelling out responses to him and joined in the singing - meanwhile MANY parents, and elderly were seated almost to the front desk (they were still bringing more seats in as the reading progressed)while teens were in amongst the book racks LOL, leaning forward and around the edges.
The signing at the Mall on Friday went a treat, massive crowd, and a thrill for us to see the total excitement as people got their photos taken with Guy and Adam too. The reactions (OMG!!! I've had my photo taken with HIM!!!!!!!) and massive grins and dancing around - and those were the adults!!
We also did the charity walk in the morning, fab. time by all, met Gina again, and Adam, Guy had had to go to another sound check as he had got mobbed to such an extent he could hardly get back in time, despite them trying to push everyone along. Despite any publicity put out by media (which worked in his favour, really) the most general feeling was Guy is a SUPERSTAR! and loved.
