| VietNamNet Bridge Some overseas Vietnamese singers have gained fame at Idol singing contests. Roni Tran (Tran Binh Trong) was born in a refugee camp in Thailand. He went to Finland at the age of four months. The Vietnamese-origin boy, who can speak five languages fluently Finnish, Swedish, English, German and Vietnamese entered the sixth round of the Finnish Idol 2005, at the age of 18. Sony offered him work in 2006. Also in 2006, Roni released his first album. The single Dont Want to Be Alone was continuously requested by listeners on radios in Finland. He was also cheered by the community of overseas Vietnamese. Roni Tran temporarily has stopped singing to do military service. Owning an immeasurably high and powerful voice, Thanh Bui won over the most fastidious jurymen of Australian Idol 2008. Having found a passion for singing at the age of 10 and starting to write songs at the age of 17, Thanh Bui set up a band named North, which signed recording contracts with Universal Music and EMI and operated for several years. The band finally broke up because they couldnt find a direction. Though ranking 8th at the Australian Idol 2008, Thanh Bui, 25, has become a new idol of the Vietnamese-Australian community. He established a company named Yin Yang Products and website International Artist Academy. Alice Avensson In late 2008, the community of Vietnamese in Hungary was hit by the news that Nguyen Thanh Hien, 14, passed 10,000 contestants of the Hungarian Idol 2008 to enter the top 15. She ended up coming in 6th. Hien was also the only Asian contestant. The girl was born and grew up in Hungary. She has a powerful voice and professional performance style. Hien can not only sing and dance, but also play the violin. She is the major violinist of the childrens orchestra in Sopron city. She has appeared frequently on the local medial for the last several months. Alice Svensson came second in the Swedish Idol 2008, at the age of 17. The girl was adopted by a Swedish family when she was less than one year old. Alice can play piano, sing and perform very professionally. She has participated in several singing contests in Sweden like Super Troupers 2004, Talent 2007 before ranking second at Swedish Idol 2008. |
