NOW that he has quit Neighbours, Dean Geyer is looking to move to the US.

In the meantime, he has a warning for anyone auditioning for Australian Idol - it takes more than a few appearances on the show to make it big.

"I think instead of being a show about creating a superstar, it should be sending a message that if you are really going to be successful it's what happens afterwards.

"I think some of the people who watch the show have it in their minds once the person is on the show they have made it, but it's not the case."

Geyer also pointed out it's incredibly hard to get signed to a major label if you don't start out on Idol these days.

He spent the Christmas and New Year period in Melbourne with his family.
