Title: I'm no diva

Rhonda - November 21, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
MARK Spano, eliminated this week from Australian Idol, says there will definitely not be an all-male version of The Young Divas.

After top-four finalist Teale Jakubenko mentioned a possible collaboration between himself, Spano and the competition's two finalists, Wes Carr and Luke Dickens, websites were abuzz with speculation about an all-male, all-Idol group.

"If we were to tour collectively, where each of us do our own sets, that would be cool," said Spano.

"There definitely won't be any young male divas. I don't think we're the kind of blokes suited for something like that."

Spano, who returned to singing after losing his voice a few years ago, said he was staying positive in the face of narrowly missing a place in Sunday's grand final.

"The way I look at it, there wasn't one final position, there were 12 out of 38,000," he said.

"There may be one major prize, but we've all got something to take away from it."

To make matters worse, an online voting error on Sunday may have cost him a grand final place.

"I guess I'll never know but I'm fine with it.

"I don't want to change anything but I did really want to sing my winner's single, You Are So Beautiful, by Joe Cocker."

While Wes Carr was favourite to win, Spano was backing sheep shearer and clear underdog Luke Dickens.

"I've been singing all my life and he's never done a proper gig," he said.

"It's amazing how someone can have such raw talent and not have harnessed it. He's the dark horse and that's why I want him to win." Seanna Cronin.
