Shannon's shocker in the SnowysMarch 16, 2008
ORGANISERS of the inaugural CMC Rocks The Snowys festival were left red-faced after a "very happy" Shannon Noll slurred his way through his headline slot at the Thredbo event on Saturday night.
According to festival-goers, the Aussie rocker got loud in a not-so-proud performance that left parts of the crowd booing and jeering in disappointment.
The Australian Idol product signed up to play alongside top local and international country and roots acts including the John Butler Trio, Sugarland and Gary Allan at the two-day festival, held at Thredbo's Friday Flats.
And while the rest of the festival went off without a hitch, punters were left wondering just how much Noll had been enjoying the country hospitality after he "stumbled and slurred" his way through his 9.20pm set.
"It was so appallingly bad it wasn't funny," one crowd member told Confidential yesterday.
"He was virtually incoherent but couldn't stop rambling and raving on about how proud he was to be a country boy - he just wasn't making any sense."
"In the end people started booing and yelling out 'just sing' because he was making such a fool of himself."
While a spokeswoman for the rocker had "no comment" on the woeful performance, organisers of the CMC Rocks the Snowys festival admitted Noll's rock and roll antics were "interesting".
"What can I say - he definitely looked like he was very happy to be there," event publicist Kerry Roberts said.
