M’sian-born Idol Guy Sebastian to wed girlfriend

MELBOURNE: Malaysian-born Guy Sebastian, the inaugural Australian Idol, is set to marry after proposing to long-time girlfriend Jules Egan.


Sebastian, 26, was spending time with Egan over Christmas when he decided to pop the question, according to New Idea magazine.

According to the report, Sebastian, a devout Christian, dropped to one knee following a beachside walk and produced a white-gold ring featuring 140 diamonds.

Sebastian, who was born in Klang, Selangor, met 28-year-old Egan at an Assemblies of God church in Adelaide 13 years ago. They have been together for eight years.

GUY Sebastian's days of discussing his virgin status are likely to be numbered with news he's popped the question to long-time love Jules Egan.

The original Australian Idol dropped to one knee during a walk along the beach last month and presented Egan with some serious bling -- a white-gold ring set with 140 diamonds.

A new holiday house in Queensland's Hervey Bay, a new 4WD and a Louis Vuitton handbag sealed the deal.

The pair met 13 years ago at Adelaide's Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church when Sebastian was 13 and Egan 15.

A devout Christian, Sebastian is saving Tree for marriage.

"Every bloke, including myself, is dying to have Tree. Dying," he said last year. "But it's just a matter of controlling the physical and our faith."

Egan admitted that mates were asking when the couple of eight years were planning to wed.

"People think you're a bit freaky if you don't sleep with your boyfriend," she told New Idea.

"In our church culture, that's OK, but even they were wondering why we hadn't got married.

"And we're still going to keep ourselves for when we marry."

The lovebirds say the wedding is likely to be held this year.

Sebastian is getting down to some serious songwriting with visiting US tunesman David Ryan Harris, who has worked with John Mayer and Dave Matthews.

Sebastian, 26, who took out the first Australian Idol series in 2003, surprised his long-time girlfriend with a white gold ring set with 140 diamonds during their Christmas holiday on the central Queensland coast, New Idea magazine reports.

Along with the ring, the singer/songwriter presented 28-year-old Ms Egan with a fully furnished holiday home near the beach, a four-wheel drive in the garage, and a Louis Vuitton handbag under the Christmas tree.

Sebastian organised the surprise last year while touring to promote his fourth record, The Memphis Album.

"At the end I was completely exhausted, but it was worth it,'' Sebastian told the magazine.

"I'm marrying the woman I want to spend my life with.''

The couple met 13 years ago at the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church they attended with their families in Adelaide.

The two committed Christians, who now call Sydney home, have both maintained they would not sleep together until they were married.

"In our church culture that's okay, but even they were wondering why we hadn't got married.

"And we're still going to keep ourselves for when we marry.''

The couple plan to marry sometime this year, but have not revealed an exact date.

Australian R&B star Guy Sebastian has proposed to his long-time girlfriend Jules Egan.


Gossip magazine New Idea reports that 26 year old Guy proposed to 28 year old Jules over the holiday break during a walk on the beach in Queensland.

The couple have been together for 8 years and met 13 years ago at the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church in Adelaide. New Idea reports that they became a couple after singing together at a friends wedding.

The marriage proposal tops a great year for Sebastian who found himself musically with his 'The Memphis Album'.

The album was recorded with music legends Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn, of Booker T. & The MG's and Blues Brothers fame.

Sebastian, the first of the Australian Idols, broke away from the cookie-cutter format of the show to produce a credible album away from the pop genre. He discover his true talent is based on classic Rhythm & Blues.

'The Memphis Album' features covers from the historic Stax label, the 50 year old Memphis label where the talent genius sounds of Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett were originally captured.

'The Memphis Album' has sold 99,999 physical CD units in Australia since entering the charts 8 weeks ago.

Guy Sebastian’s and his long term girlfriend Jules were spending a few days of Christmas in the sun when he popped the question.

According to New Idea, the first Australian Idol winner decided on a elegant proposal - following a walk along the beach he dropped to one knee and produced an exquisite white-gold ring, set with 140 diamonds.

But having sealed the deal Guy got a little bit rock star with a new holiday house on the beach, a car in the garage and a Louis Vuitton handbag providing the icing on the cake.

OUR very own Guy Sebastian has presented his gal Jules Egan with one helluva jewelled engagement ring.

The bling designed by the 'Fro, below inset, features a whopping 140 diamonds - which, when you think about it - is only about 17 diamonds for every year of their eight-year courtship.

Guy popped the question on Boxing Day on the beach outside a new love shack at Hervey Bay, Queensland.

But, according to the loved-up couple who are sharing their joy in this week's edition of women's mag New Idea, the committed Christians haven't sealed the deal.

"People think you're a bit freaky if you don't sleep with your boyfriend," Jules tells the mag.

"And we're still going to keep ourselves for when we marry," she adds. They should consummate their relationship some time in '08 though, because it's not going to be a long engagement.

Guy says the wedding will take place this year - although neither he nor Jules are elaborating on the details.

"I don't know where we'll get married but it will be a wonderful day," Jules tells the mag.

We're guessing the grand ceremony will be the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church, where they met 13 years ago when Guy was 13 and older woman Jules was 15.
