Title: Row over Matt Corby deal, Mark Holden 'unreliable'

Rhonda - December 19, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
AUSTRALIAN Idol judge Mark Holden has been branded an unreliable information source by label bosses amid wrangling over Matt Corby's record deal.

News that Sony BMG will sign Cronulla boy Corby, the 2007 runner-up, has raised the issue of the label's previous vow to sign just one contestant from this year's line-up - the winner.

But a Sony rep yesterday denied the vow was ever really made and claimed it was an off-the-cuff statement made by Idol loudmouth Holden.

"I can't imagine (Sony BMG chief) Denis Hanlin ever telling anyone we would only sign one contestant from Idol," said a label source yesterday.

"Mark is a person who often speaks out of turn and I wouldn't say he should be considered a reliable source of information.

"He did say it and a lot of people have mentioned it since but where he got that from, who knows." Mark was unavailable for comment yesterday.

Meanwhile winner Natalie Gacui is struggling to sell - read and blog here.

Meanwhile a Ten insider admitted Sony always had Matt in their sights. "You would think they would be silly not to sign him. He is definitely the marketable (of the final two)," the source said.

The label exercised its 30-day option on Matt, beating out a slew of other recording companies to wrap up the prettyboy from Cronulla who will ink his contract today and is expected to hit the studio as soon as possible.

Sony BMG will be hoping for a big result – Gauci's album has failed to crack the top 10 on release, only making it to No. 12 on the ARIA chart with sales of just 11,489 units last week.

oh sorry hon. didn't see this. I was working, have hurt knee  and looks like surgery some time! HOW inconvenient!!

yep, I went. My Cybelle acted in mystead and as she is rather cute  she had a very very good time. In fact, loved it.

I have to recommend it, they were extremely professional.

And then of course he was at the Oxford Falls Carols with Guy. VERY successful night there, for both of them. And they sang a duet together.

After seeing matt at the Carols at Metro Church

I think he may be going Bon Jovi way... surprised

That is, of course - at the age of 17. Many things will happen in between.

I hope he goes back to school - conservatorium preferably - study music, singing, and all the rest, work with other writers, get gigs going and take things slowly.

I think, that way, it will pan out well.
