Title: Stop Bagging Our Idol

TWO weeks after she was voted No.1 by television viewers, singing sensation Natalie Gauci says she is fed up with the way people bag out Australian Idol.

It's been two weeks since the 26-year-old won the fifth season of the reality singing competition, which was dogged by controversy, criticism and low ratings.

"I am sick of people bagging Idol, especially contestants from the show who have been on it and are successful because of it," she said. "People need to see the positive side. They need to appreciate what the contestants go through."

ARIA award-winning singer Missy Higgins was vocal about her dislike for the show, saying it was not a "credible music competition". But, like Higgins, Gauci also got her musical start on Triple J's Unearthed competition.

Gauci's debut EP, Take It Or Leave It, was released in April last year and Triple J picked three of her songs forUnearthed.

"I have been doing this for a long time and Idol has just prepared me for what is to come now," she said.

Gauci has barely had a moment to rest since winning the show.

As well as promoting her single, Here I Am, she has recorded her Winner's Journey album of songs she performed on Idol
