Ricki Lee Coulter sacks manager as album sales stall

THEY both share the word Lee in their names but that's it for pop singer Ricki-Lee Coulter and her manager Karen-Lee Goody, whose working relationship has come to a bitter split.

Former Young Divas singer Coulter has dumped Goody, her manager of less than a year, following sluggish sales of her recently released album Brand New Day.

While the single Can't Touch It has been a big hit - debuting at No. 2 on the ARIA chart - album sales have not been as strong for the solo singer.

"I can't really comment on it too much at the moment," Coulter said of her split with Goody. "We are still working the album hard and I'm going to promote the hell out of it."

Goody, who also manages the career of Deni Hines, joined the Coulter camp six months before Coulter opted to leave the Young Divas and forge a name as a solo performer.

"I did everything possible to deliver on my job - which was to position Ricki-Lee out on her own," Goody told Confidential yesterday.

"But it was a culmination of things that just weren't working. Since when was a manager responsible for album sales? She's proved she can sell singles but maybe Ricki-Lee just doesn't have the market for album sales."

When asked who Coulter was now looking to recruit to manage her pop career, Goody replied "I have no idea - nor do I really care."

But it's not all doom and gloom for the recently married popstar - who has been booked to perform the national anthem on her 22nd birthday during the Melbourne Cup Carnival Emirates Stakes Day on November 10.

"I have performed at the racing carnival before, but this is the first time I will be solo," she said.
