After the conclusion of the workshop, the seven contestants were invited to a We Will Rock You performance, some of which will be seen this week on Canadian Idol. What was particularly ironic, though, is one of the musical's opening lines as the character Pop slams the whole Idol phenomenon. Set in the year 2307, Pop says music's downfall started with American Idol.
However, it seemed as if the contestants enjoyed themselves, getting the chance to meet Yvan Pedneault, who plays lead character Galileo in the musical. The seven also took the stage for the closing moments of the show as Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor performed Bohemian Rhapsody with the entire cast, as well as The Show Must Go On, which earned a standing ovation.
With a lump in his throat and at a loss for words, May thanked the crowds for the support, stating We Will Rock You has found a home in Canada. He also said he was a bit hesitant about appearing on Idol but had a definite change of heart after working with the seven contestants. "You're working with the singer-songwriters and nurturing them," May said regarding the program, adding that the remaining Idol contestants are the ones that should be on the show.
