DEAN Geyer has followed his heart to LA, jetting off to see his rocker girlfriend Lisa Origliasso, one half of her other double act, The Veronicas.

While the new season of Idol kicked off last night, Geyer has signed on to the cast of Neighbours, confirming months of rumours that the former Australian Idol heartthrob would be paying a visit to Ramsay St.

Geyer is believed to be playing an aspiring musician, and will use Neighbours as a platform to boost his real-life music career - a similar move to Delta Goodrem, who became a pop superstar after her stint on the show in 2002.

Geyer, who came to fame after starring in the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006, will join fellow ex-Idol pin-up Dan O'Connor on the set of the soap.

Geyer was invited to a party held on Monday, July 23, to celebrate the relaunch of the long-running soap series.

At the party the Ten Network announced that Neighbours had been renewed for at least three more years, meaning it will reach its 25th anniversary in 2010.

The revamp, which included new opening credits, an updated theme song and an overhaul of the soap's production processes, intrigued viewers: Neighbours pulled in more than 1 million viewers on July 23, well up from its average audience of 700,000.
