RUSH - DEAN GEYER
Many Australian Idol contestants have failed to make an impact on the charts due to bad song choices. Unfortunately for Geyer, If You Don’t Mean It, the first track of Rush and also his first single, suffers from this syndrome, not even reaching the top 10. The song is particularly repetitive and dull, which is a shame because there are some excellent tracks on his debut album.
Although he sounds like a mature version of Teddy Geiger, the record at times seems like the latest version of the 90s boyband Hanson on songs like I’ll Be and Stay.
So, why should we invest in Geyer? Answer: not just because of his gorgeous body but the song She Comes In Waves says it all. The track exposes his beautiful falsetto with a pleasing acoustic feel.
Another compelling song, I Don’t Wanna Wait (which should surely be his next single), has a catchy tune giving a sample of Geyer’s raw sound. Although it starts off on a boring beat, the CD does end on a positive note with the charming songs Secret Place and Can’t Be You.
So, if you’re into sleepovers and pillow fights or just want to perve on the album cover, then Rush is for you.
