Title: Bobby Flynn Tours

Australian Idol’s influence on the nation’s musical terrain is unquestionable, but in terms of individuality, few of the show’s success stories could rival that of Bobby Flynn. Bobby recently appeared at the Brisbane auditions to inspire thousands of aspiring vocalists and catch up with friends, but the question still remained: when would we get a dose of Bobby’s musical magic? Now, armed with a troupe of top musicians, dancers and visual artists, Bobby finally hits the road for a much anticipated national tour. We recently caught up with the former finalist to get the low-down on his shows.

Bobby was renowned for his creative interpretations of mega-hits but with total creative control of his own stage show, the ‘Ziggety-Boo from Xanadu’ is pushing the boundaries even further. He excitedly describes some of the more theatrical elements of his show.

“The show is amazing,” Bobby says. “We’ve got a video artist working with us so he’s capturing content on the road. He’s done an emotional interpretation of all the songs and he’s very much an active member of the band. It looks great. We’re also travelling with two adagio acrobats who are again interpreting the music. It’s risky but that’s what I’m all about.”

While an extended troupe of performers adds to the appeal of his stage show, fans will be keen to hear the original tunes that captured imaginations during a series that was considered Idol’s ‘coming of age’.

“We’ve written a couple of new ones,” Bobby explains. “There’s a few of the old ones and we’re doing a couple of the Idol favourites as well. We’re slipping in Superfreak, which always gets the audience working. We’ve got this amazing percussionist so he’s got a Latin solo half way through that song which rips.”

Bobby admits that he’s breaking new ground during the tour, but with a firm commitment to sharing his trials and tribulations, fans have the opportunity to keep up-to-date with Bobby via his official website (bobbyflynn.com) where a feast of vids and blogs provide plenty of entertainment.

“This is an informative time for me,” Bobby explains. “Realising what the realities are for touring. I didn’t know that stuff before I went on the show (Idol). It really is a journey of exploration. It’s really cool because people are invited along for the ride and we’re documenting it – all the video blogging. It’s good to have that online presence.”

Tickets for Bobby’s shows are selling fast so make sure you check the dates for your chance to experience one of the characters who made last year’s series of Idol such a huge success. To keep up with Bobby’s adventures or find the latest Bobby Flynn news, make sure you check out bobbyflynn.com.
