Julia Zemiro - Biography
Julia Zemiro - comedy star of radio, TV and theatre
Julia Zemiro is using her star turn on It Takes Two to bring back the ABBA hits of yesteryear, as well as a bit of French pop! The bubbly actress and radio personality has fond memories of belting out her favourite European hits in the lounge room as a kid.
“Everyone’s fantasy is to be able to sing. That, or be a rock star,” she says. So the seasoned performer, who is used to turning into character mode since her starring role on Totally Full Frontal, is up for the challenge of playing a singer! “As a performer I have sung in tow shows on stage and I loved it,” she admits. “But I would say I am an actor who can sing – I’m not a singer.”
A twice winner of the Best Actress gong at Tropfest, Julia has notched up many memorable TV experiences, including being a regular debater and panellist for Good News Week, winner of Australia’s Brainiest TV Star, red-carpet reporter for the Australian Film Institute Awards and ARIAs and guest for Thanks God You’re Here and The Wedge.
She recently frocked up and polished her accent work for Eurobeat, an original new musical comedy based on the Eurovision Song Contest. Julia has been heard co-hosting the nationally syndicated radio program The Jonathan Coleman Experience, as well as Conversation Hour on Melbourne radio.
With a varied career, Julia is looking to spice it up even more and hoping to develop her singing prowess even more. “You should do at least one thing a year that makes you very, very scared,” she says. “I can’t wait for the free singing lessons!”
Julia is supporting the Mirabel Foundation which is the only organisation in Australia which assists children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use.
Mirabel specifically addresses the needs of this vulnerable group of children, the most profoundly overlooked casualties of substance abuse in our society. They work at restoring a child’s sense of self-worth, belonging and hope for the future in order for them to reach their full potential as young adults. “Many actors and musicians support this charity, well aware of the connection that our industry has with the darker side of this world.”
David Gleeson - Biography
The Screaming Jets Frontman.
It was while singing at church, during his school years at Marist Brothers' High School that Dave Gleeson was asked to join a fledgling band - and as they say, the rest is history.
Dave has been the frontman for the internationally acclaimed rock band The Screaming Jets for the past seventeen years. The Screaming Jets formed in 1989 and later that year won the Triple J national Battle of the Bands. Since then they have not stopped touring, both nationally and internationally.
The Screaming Jets have been acclaimed both overseas and in Australia as one of this country’s best touring bands, and the names of the acts that they have toured with, read like a who’s who of music in the last twenty years.
Five gold and platinum albums, three gold and platinum singles, 2000 plus live concerts and a horde of loyal Jets fans both here and abroad, are some of the accolades that The Screaming Jets have attained for themselves over the years.
Whenever The Screaming Jets have been off the road, Dave has taken the opportunity to explore other creative avenues, including working as a DJ on Triple M’s National Network, appearing as a regular on the Channel 9 'NRL Footy Show' and starring in a Newcastle production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Dave also recorded and released his first solo album - the country flavoured Wanted Man, which he showcased in 2003 at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
The Screaming Jets are currently putting the finishing touches on their seventh studio album.
