COULD it get any better for Damien Leith?


In less than a month, he has won Australian Idol, hit No. 1 on the charts and yesterday confirmed he and wife Eileen Stapleton are expecting their second child.

As the ecstatic couple and their 15-month-old son Jarvis left Australia yesterday to spend Christmas with family in Ireland, Damien was told his album The Winner's Journey had claimed No. 1 on the ARIA charts after debuting No. 3 behind The 12th Man and U2.

"A big year, it's been a big year," the charming singer songwriter said.

"This has just topped off the year."

Despite suspecting Eileen was expecting their second child, the pair kept their secret from everyone except immediate family in the lead-up to the Idol final last month.

"It happened right smack in the middle of Idol," Leith said.

Eileen said having their family in Sydney, including Damien's mother Angela, as her husband was consumed by hard work during the final weeks of Idol was perfect timing.

"I had a really good pregnancy with Jarvis and I've been fine so far," she said.

Leith's debut single Night Of My Life remained at No. 1 on the ARIA chart yesterday for the third week in a row.

During his three week trip home, Leith will launch the single in Ireland with a promotional tour.

Leith will be heading back into the studio to begin recording his debut album with his newfound mentor and John Farnham's producer Ross Fraser in mid-January
