It’s a concert and festival rolled into one, and as Darwin prepares its Amphitheatre for a Grand Final night to remember, organisers are viewing the spectacular free event as the ultimate bonding session for the local community.
Of course, it all started months ago as Australian Idol rightly guessed that the territory might be hiding gifted vocalists. Recognising the difficulties of locals to get to traditional audition cities, the crew took the entire elaborate circus known as the Australian Idol Audition Tour to Alice Springs. As soon as the panel heard the magical voice of Jessica Mauboy, the visit was justified.
Since that time, Northern Territorians have had plenty to celebrate as their local gal survived tough verdicts to be a part of our finale. Now that the big day is approaching, a massive event has been organised that will prove that Darwin is absolutely Idol-mad!
It’s a real family event that will offer plenty of entertainment for the masses expected to pack into the amphitheatre. Like any good festival, you can bring a hamper or esky to the venue, but vendors will be offering a dazzling array of all the tasty naughty stuff like ice-cream, hotdogs and soft drinks.
Gates open early at 4pm to give fans a chance to settle in and find the perfect spot to watch a live broadcast of the Sydney performances, which begin at 6pm. It’ll be hard to miss considering the screen is 37 square metres! For the youngsters who will be keen to mingle and enjoy the event as a concert, DJs will be spinning discs and dancers will strut their stuff on stage. The girl of the moment, Jess will be honoured with a video montage of highlights from her Idol journey.
The massive crowd will also become talent as the broadcast crosses live to the amphitheatre several times during the show. Imagine how Jess will feel when she sees her fellow Territorians cheering! Just to add a colourful garnish to the night’s festivities, the event will end with a stunning fireworks display.
If you’re within Cooee of the Amphitheatre catch a camel, a bus, or just slip your thongs on and hit the road… whatever you have to do, make sure you share in the ultimate celebration of Idol as your hometown’s brightest rising star competes for the title of Australian Idol.
