Idol pin-up Geyer may become an actor

He may not be the next Australian Idol, but don't be too surprised if pin-up boy Dean Geyer turns out to be a screen idol instead.

The South Africa-born contestant, who was voted off the show on Monday night, wants to spend the next few years concentrating on his music, but hasn't ruled out turning his hand to acting.

"A lot of people have said why don't you try Neighbours or Home and Away," the 20-year-old Victorian said.

"I'd love to try something like that - I've always been interested in acting.

"But I'd like to do a movie maybe, a film instead of a TV show."

Geyer may never have the opportunity to hone his skills as a thespian if his music career takes off.

As soon as the results were announced on Monday night, judge Mark Holden told him that Sony would definitely offer him a recording contract.

Holden said those who mattered at the recording giant loved his style.

But Geyer said he was sceptical.

"It's really exciting, but I'll believe it when I hear it for myself," he said.

"I kind of question if it was true or not ... but if it is true, I'm really grateful."

Geyer's elimination leaves Irishman Damien Leith and 17-year-old Jessica Mauboy to battle it out in the series grand final later this month.

"I'm feeling a little bit of disappointment because obviously I would have loved to have gone to the Opera House and you know, getting so close - top three and then missing out - is kind of disappointing," Geyer said.

"But saying that, I'm kind of relieved because it's just been such a full-on few months for me and I just felt like I was going to pop."

Of the two remaining contenders, Geyer says Damien's experience might put him in good stead for the final.

"I think Damo's maturity and his age might get him over the edge - he's been performing for a while and he's getting good at it," says Geyer.

"That's not saying Jessica is not good, but I think Jessica's age may restrict her a bit.

"I think in a year or two she's going to be the next Whitney Houston."

One thing Geyer is not going to miss from the competition is the judges' focus on his looks and past modelling experience.

"It's kind of disappointing - if that was true - to think that I was getting through on that; I tried really hard on the show with my performances," he says.

Mauboy and Leith will face off to become the next Australian Idol in the grand final to be held at the Sydney Opera House on November 26.

Me too Starry,
He is a very talented young man. He may not have the best voice but he does have a great all around ability. And he seems to be a really nice young man as well.

I hope he finds what he wants...

He reminds me a little of David Cassidy...The fans eventually got to him though and it made him go into hiding for the longest time.
