Idol has no time for love

AUSTRALIAN Idol heart-throb Dean Geyer, who won girls' hearts with his pin-up boy looks, is still a single man.
Geyer, who was evicted from the "Idol bubble" last night, ruled out being in a relationship, saying he did not have time for romance while competing in Idol.
He also rubbished rumours of being involved with a retail assistant named as Mel.
"That got blown out of proportion, and we are just friends," he said. "I spent time with friends like her outside of the Idol world to get away from it and to just be normal."
Geyer also said he had not yet secured a record deal, despite early calls by judge Mark Holden that he was a "perfect pop star" who was well-liked by Sony executives.
Geyer said he saw himself as a more of a "rock star", instead of the "pop star" Holden described last night.
"I haven't had any calls from any record company, even though I'd love to back it up and don't know how much truth Mark is talking," he said.
"I got engulfed in the Idol world of fame, and I don't think it's hit me yet as I'm still walking around like a normal dude, forgetting people recognise me."
Geyer said he will be doing some songwriting with Australian artists including his own industry idol Guy Sebastian, Daniel Jones from Savage Garden and R&B singer Israel.
The departure of the South African-born 20-year-old from Victoria leaves Jessica Mauboy and Damien Leith to battle for the 2006 Idol title.
Geyer tipped Leith to win the competition on his strong fanbase and vocal maturity.
Centrebet today named Mauboy as a $1.66 favourite to win the title. Leith is at $2.10.
