Just so's you can be happy while u're reading.

Joes and I trained up from the Gold Coast, very comfy way of have a Guyfest for an hour. :)

We found our way there, but were starving. Hairbear, Megan, Monkey, Mesmerise and around half a dozen others were already there, seated on the raised area, and Jellyfishy found us oh so quickly. (Dammit!! I thought the photo of me that I'd sent was better than that :( )

So then she could leave her bag and go explore around the Mall and Joes and I went for lunch. When we came back there were more people coming in and we found our 'usual suspects' rolling up. Still not a huge lot of people - but its only the regular Guy fans who realise that you NEED to be there early to grab the best spots.

Unfortunately, just as we're REALLY getting very comfy on the raised area, the barriers are brought in!!

We held position, truly - but slowly - we were levered off the raised area and the STANDING STARTED  :( .

We'll cut a bit here - so many of our forum arrived, fantastic to see such a great roll up. Liz and her mum, Emmie, Leebella and BeMyGuide and LilliMarlene and Karma - oh, so many I don't remember you all - because half the time I remember the proper name and the other half the board name  . Jelena had come back and got a great position in front corner, and she's beautifully tall (and so pretty - must see if I can get the okay to pop a photo here) so she had a completely uninterrupted view - as it should be.

Narrowpath arrived - ready to do cross over view phone. Looking VERY good in her Indy shirt.

Betheo was there, Priceless finally made it. The Mall was filling up but not just behind, to the side too.

Cut again (because you've read it all before).

Oh - rewind slightly - when the radio team arrived and got the crowd hyped up I found (I was standing immediately behind Monkey and a little to the side and behind Megan and RIGHT BESIDE THE BEST SCREAMER Liz!!! (Although I think Megan actually had a bit more tone happening  ). So you can imagine the screams when they asked for volunteers to warm the Guy seat. :o

Honestly - thought they would all clamber over those barriers - the barriers are definitely chosen carefuly as regards height. They just couldn't make it but I can tell you there was definitely a major effort on our girls part to do their best.

Tran, clutching three cds (JAIM, BL and CTTS) got the honoured spot, and she was asked whether her boyfriend minded her being so keen on Guy - apparently not, she said that he was okay as long as she studied tomorrow. Big BIG smile as she sat there.

Also got a very composed schoolgirl up to sit on Carl's chair, when she sang a Kryptonite verse! Not bad.

I’m still going of course.

So I’ll fast forward to the arrival of Guy. He’s such a sweetie, he thanked those who’d provided sushi and someone else for lending the guitar. As you’ve heard before here, he had brought his electric guitar but the area wasn’t set up for that, so they both played acoustic.

And then of course he sat down – oh, meanwhile, lots of txting and etc going on, and our cameras flashing, and the radio guy being very impressed with the paparazzi effect happening.

(Joes and I discussed this later   - just imagine how that fella would have felt if our major frotographers had been there!! Probably would have permitted them within the barriers, believing they were the professional photographers).

The man was definitely in voice. I've said this year that his voice has changed into something akin to cream with a dash of brandy, and dusted with powdered toffee. NOW I think its matured past that, still in the same way but its
HEAVY CREAM, good dash of Courvoisier and the powdered toffee is heavy on top. It's totally glorious!! Anyone who has even vaguely thought of going, but has the cd

do yourself a favour. What you hear on the cd is great, fabulous even. WHAT YOU GET IN A LIVE PERFORMANCE, with the amps happening, and that charisma, and stage presence, and Guydom, is something else again.

Magnificence?

ITS TOTALLY THE VOICE now. Beautifully crafted, wonderfully used and with the greatest joy and spirit.

I wish we could bottle it.

Actually - they need to do a GREAT DVD with GREAT reproduction, because you do realise? He's come this far in just those few years! Its quite early days. (In opera, we learnt through the Operatunity series, they don't think of a true opera voice happening until around 30-ish, so Guy has these next few years coming when I think he will just keep surpassing himself and keep surprising us all - yet again).

It’s the tones, the flexibility, the SHEER MUSICALITY that happens. I’ve often commented that I believe Guy is particularly talented because he is, innately, a musician first. So this aspect is so strong in his performances.

Elle, your dad (I’d love to hear him singing) would have been in 7th heaven.

(This is the third time I've posted here but it keeps adding it into the post above ).

You've really read it all by this time, so I'm just trying to give my aspect on yesterday.

The little girl was great - she wanted to sing "Boyfriend" but Carl didn't know it (Oh yes, sez Guy, he prefers Shannons music! )

I'd have loved her to sing "Boyfriend". Pity, that. I'm sure if he'd hummed it Carl would have got it - I rather suspect Guy had forgotten the words , was more to the point.

Everything went off so well.

The crowd size?

As Trish said - the immediate crowd behind may have been in the thousandth SIZE thinking schools - but assemblys don't crowd in and get 'up close and personal'!! About 2/3 were pretty squashed up. As Guy sang I actually took a look around so I could txt onwards. There was a huge crowd alongside the stage to the sides and up the back, because they couldn't get any closer. The crowd went waaaaay back - they were there, just enjoying the sound, even if they couldn't see properly. It was definitely around 1500 plus - but some of that might have been moving around. The SQUASH was pretty squashy . You all know what it's like.

In a normal crowd environment you don't want to know you're feeling someone's boob leaning into your back. At a gig, that goes out the window you simply don't CARE!!! Instead, you just have to hope that the person's alongside don't happen to get you in the eye instead.

The big line up was quite 'thick' in that we were often standing in little clumps of around 3 - 4 ppl. and it wound around the mall in a big "U" shape. It was funny to see, because it failed to get any shorter for around an hour. As people went through to get their stuff signed, other people joined on the end, so it was still as long as ever. I think that's when they made the announcement that they would have to soon start making a cut-off point.

But even that announcement was made for probably around 10 mins.

Did I mention he's quite adorable? mmmm probably not but others have. I asked how he was coping with it all (he knew what I meant - its been pretty full on, and still is) and he said he was getting pretty tired but it was okay so I reminded him that probably that's because certain people stay out until 6am with John Mayer!

Laughed. Ahhh he's cute. And I did give him a shirt, thinking of Barbie and SHamrock and all those other dreadful girls who spend so much time in the norty corner. It was a size 5 cute muscle shirt. - with instructions that IF he could get it on (I'm talking size 5 CHILDREN'S WEAR ) we would appreciate a photo.

(I think Donny could have it for next winter)

We had a ball, still on a high. I SO want to hear that voice in concert. It doesn't stop now, people.

from the OF

Jellyfishy (Nederlands fan) (just some excerpts from both)

Well I still cant quite believe it, but today I've actually seen and heard guy!!
It was so great to see him perform live, so much different than watching him on my computer or tv. His voice is even more amazing then I allready thought it was. So powerfull and just beautiful!

When he came out I was focussing real hard on him, lol, just so I could take in every little detail. I saw him coming smiling all the way towards the stage and then that smile basicly didnt leave him. What a wonderful charisma he has.

He's such a great performer as well! Even though he hardly moved around the stage and just sat there playing the guitar, he had my full attention during his entire performance.

And from Emmie

you see him in pics but they dont do him justice. he is so down to earth, exceeded my expectations by a mile!
