“Closer to the Sun” I don’t know you gals & guys have noticed this or not…Guy has taken his surname off the album cover! >>1.Elevator love – Catchy lyrics with great beats and rock guitar churn; get ready to bang your head in the air to follow its irresistible rhythm (if you have watched the video clip you will know what I’m talking about here ). After I 4 U, Oh Oh, Guy collaboration with Jarrad Rogers continue to rocks da house once again. Is Rogers one of the Guy’s guitarists on ‘Beautiful life’ tour? My favourite bits: We come back just to throw it all away/ Tell me it’s over/ So we can do it all again/ I’m addicted to this elevator love yayeaahhhhh >> <<2.Out of Place – Ha! Another up-tempo song accompanies the pounding basslines; it’s amazing how his rich, sweet voice can ventures into this style with such ease. It’s one of my favourite tracks on the album, cos I absolutely adore the lyrics and which I can relate to. tongue.gif Not to mention, the soaring notes, sigh … My favourite bits: The grass is baby blue/ the sky is army green/ everything is out of place/ my inside out is so upside down/ whenever you ‘re not around/ everything is crazy baby << 3. Can’t stop a River – Exquisite, powerful, deep and smooth; this ballad gives him the latitude to sing his heart out in the chorus. This is a track which really shows off his range and his voice does not fall short at all. Guy’s voice is still amazing as ever. My favourite bits: I *won’t* blame* you* this* time / can’t stop my heart from loving youuuuuuhhh 4. Trade this Love – x3 addictive funk tunes, melodic intensity with the deeply loveable lyrics, easy to sing and groove along, the note at the end kinda remind me of ‘hit the road jack’. My favourite bits: all she wants is my time/ not my money but my mind/ see this loves never old/ cos she’s living in my soul/ and keep it burning in my veins yeah 5. Closer to the Sun – I called it my Venus ballad. The only track co-produced by Guy and I amazed, simple melody, very relaxing and beautifully composed. What a welcome surprise, not a usual Guy R&B territory, love the chorus, your mind and soul would just conjured up in this outer space, wherever that is, may be *grooveland* in the middle of city traffic might not sounds bad after all. I’m not making any sense here ..hubby and my no.1 favourite track My favourite bits: leave behind everything you think matters/ welcome aboard get comfortable/ your maiden journey’s just begun/ we can rent a little house on Venus/ and get close to the sun *** If one day Guy eventually became his own producer/ for other artists, I won’t be so surprise. Great effort, Guy! 6. Cover on My Heart – this is the most heartfelt ballad he has ever sung, talks about the agony of hush-hush love. Yes, Guy can definitely sing sorrowful ballads like no other remember that ‘Make heaven wait’ and ‘Beautiful friend’, those songs still make me weep from time to time. My favourite bits: spent all night trying to explore just/ how I’d tell you I adore ya/ feels like my point existence/ has vanished with you in the distance 7. I’m Gon Getcha – reggae adds groovalious flavour to the song with the wise use of falsetto by Guy and the highlight of featuring Machal Montano, perfect love song dedicated to boys/girls who enjoy playing hide-and-seek in their relationship. 8. Unbreakable – another stirring ballad. Guy does a nice job to convey the deepness, lyrically and musically of the song with his soothing voice. I kinda wish he could try his luck with this song in Asia if he decided to release there. This song can make a good soundtrack for the drama and movie. My favourite bits: in the loneliness of all I see/ I’m walking round with half o heart/ I can’t let go of the past/ when every breath just pulls me back/ for one last moment/ I wish my heart was unbreakable 9. Taller, Stronger, Better – piano and the orchestra accompaniment build a very emotion instrumental composition with his soaring voice. It’s heart-rending and powerful, his inimitably rich, velvet voices shine with spanking glory in this principal heartfelt ballad. *** Popular file-sharing track on some forums. My favourite bits: I have been chosen to run with the wind/ I can go higher/ I know I will soar/ I broke through the rain/ stood through the storm/ now I know I’ll remain/ I can do the impossible/ I can reach the unreachable/and live 10. Boyfriend – tongue-in-cheek lyrics with a catchy tune, sarcastically amusing and I’m really feel sorry for the dog at the same time (I’m curious is this a true story from the boy next door..). It’s my least favourite track on the album, don’t ask me why, simply don’t click with it I guess.. fear.gif My favourite bits: about her age about her name/ she even lied about the dog/ I’ll never get her, I shoulda known better 11. Stars Collide – alluring melody with heartfelt lyrics, kinda not expected from Guy. I want to hear more this type of song from him. My favourite bits: the whole song happy.gif 12. Takin Me Over – this soul/rock track’s reminiscent of Prince, high notes in the chorus is to die for. Guy should consider releasing this song as his 3rd single. My favourite bits: Such a feeling baby that soul music is takin’ me over Ahahaaaahhhhhg I get a high every time I hear the beat/ Jimmy Brown, Marvin Gaye, Hathaway/ I’m on my feet 13. Be Mine - He can sell this kind of jazzy song with his full mellow vocal alone; Guy’s voice is like versatile instrument, beautiful song to end the album. My favourite bits: Girl if you promise me / I’ll give everything I have if you will, you will be mine Bonus track 1. Do life – Memorable melody and heartwarming lyric accompanied with a light strings, simple and beautiful well-crafted song. My favourite bits: I wanna be down/ I wanna be down with the Angels hanging in the Heavens/no place my heart would rather be/ wanna be part of an ocean/ a river in motion/ everything this world call me to be yeah/ It's amazing how his voice can adapt so perfectly in all these styles. Versatile adds spice and I’m enjoying it! Guy mentioned about this as more Organic sounds and I’m agree, this whole album does glow with smoothness and harmony amongst tracks. Every song sounds pleasant, there’re no bad tracks on this album. That’s surprising.
