When the cream of kids’ television gathered for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2006, it was always going to be a messy, slimy and amusing affair. As the celebration unfolded one thing was perfectly clear: the nation’s kids absolutely love Australian Idol!

4,000 fans made plenty of noise as top entertainers strutted the stage, introduced by the lovely Sophie Monk. When the Young Divas delivered a brilliant performance, the kids went nuts, and later, Guy Sebastian treated his many young fans to a world TV premier performance of his latest single Elevator Love. But even the winners at the Nick Awards can’t leave without being slimed and after receiving his Fave Aussie award from Bindy Irwin, Guy was thoroughly slimed – and when we say ‘thoroughly’ we mean from head to toe!
Our Top 7 were there to accept the So Hot Right Now award and the 4,000 screaming fans got so excited, they had to cool down. Luckily it’s easy to chill out when you’re being spray with a massive blast of fake snow! Even our hosts were on hand as presenters and winners. James Mathison proudly judged the ‘Burp Off’, which was won by his old mate Andrew G (hang on, that sounds a bit biased!).
We’ve heard of peoplepower and girlpower, but let’s never forget the power of the nation’s kids. Over 1 million of them voted to determine the winners of this year’s awards. Once again, Australian Idol the first choice for kids. Ricki-Lee Coulter won Fave Australian Artist and her group, the Young Divas, walked away with the Fave Song award for This Time I Know It’s For Real.
According to the nation’s kids, Australian Idol is hot and it’s about to get even hotter. Don’t miss Sunday night’s Idol’s Choice show when our finalists will have the option of performing with musical instruments. Get set for an historical evening when Australian Idol continues on Network Ten.
