Idol Act mugged in robbery

FORMER Australian Idol drag queen Courtney Act was left battered and shaken after being the victim of an inner-city mugging at the weekend.

The flamboyant cross-dresser, whose real name is Shane Jenek, was on his way to kick up his heels with friends at a Darlinghurst nightclub when the senseless attack occurred.

"I wasn't even in drag, I was just walking along the street texting when these two guys jumped out and threw me to the ground,'' Act told Confidential yesterday.

"They punched me in the head, kicked me in the ribs then demanded I hand over my mobile and the $20 I had on me.''

In a strange twist of life imitating art, Act had seen the Priscilla, Queen of the Desert musical only the night before and instantly thought of its gay-bashing scene as he was being beaten.

"It was so surreal. I was screaming like a little girl but then I just thought, `I've got to get out of here' so I somehow got up and ran as fast as I could,'' he said.

Stunned and sore, Act arrived at Slide nightclub where he was assisted by friends before reporting the incident to police.
