Mitchell gets her Idol wish

THE Border’s Lisa Mitchell will have the chance to show the public the music she loves making on Sunday night.
The young Australian Idol contestant was well supported with votes by friends and fans and escaped the bottom three on a night when Lavina Williams left the show.
Despite being criticised by judge Mark Holden for her rendition of Blondie’s Heart of Glass on Sunday night, Mitchell said she had learnt a lesson about adapting a song to suit her style and had a good day yesterday.
“I want to show the Australian public what I am about,” Mitchell said.
“I can’t change what I have already done.”
Mitchell looked a little surprised when told she was “safe” by the hosts Andrew G and James Mathison and saddened when Williams was told that her Idol dream was over.
Judge Kyle Sandilands commented that some of the remaining contestants attracted sympathy votes.
This Sunday night the last seven contestants can choose their own songs and use an instrument to accompany themselves.
Continuing the disco theme, which many of the Idol contestants struggled with, they performed a boogey number last night which had the studio audience dancing.
Williams thanked the remaining Idols and said it had been an incredible journey for her.
The 29-year-old, whose sister Emily was runner-up in the last series, was booted off after her performance of the Emotions’ track Best Of My Love.
She polled the lowest votes of the eight contestants.
West Australian Chris Murphy and Victorian Ricky Muscat were also in the bottom three.
Despite losing out, Williams remained optimistic after the verdict was read out.
“I am going to leave the show, but this has been a great experience for me and I’ll never forget it,” Williams said while on stage.
“It is a journey that anybody who has underground talent should come and try out.”
