Territory Jess continues
10oct06
TOP End songbird Jessica Mauboy continues on her amazing journey to be the next Australian Idol.
Last night Australia voted on the last eight of an original 12 after Disco fever night and Jess, growing as a performer each week, sailed through after singing Donna Summer's On The Radio.
Cute Jessica, 17, was even given a hint of praise by verbal-diahorrea shock jock Kyle Sandilands, who said of her performance: "(You've come) from some sad-looking bush frump ... to someone who could sell a lot of records, internationally."
Coming from Sandilands, that is a compliment -- he had previously said to Jess to "lose the jelly-belly" and last week "bad song choice that was sh*t".
Marcia Hines, clearly the judge with the best manners, said Jessica has the best voice she has heard. Even hard judge Mark Holden, the man who unexpectedly gave big-haired Bobby Flynn a touchdown on Sunday night, said to Jess to "bring out the tiger" commenting on her yellow and black number, minus thongs, she wore on her first audition at Alice, which shows just how far she has come in the fashion stakes.
The last three up for the boot were Kiwi megaphone Lavina Williams, NT-born hunk Ricky Muscat and in a shock, Meatloaf singer-lookalike Chris Murphy.
After Ricky dodged the bullet, it was goodbye Lavina. Other contestants left are young droner Lisa Mitchell, the hard-to-categorise Flynn, Irish ballad crooner Damien Leith, and born-again South African virgin Dean Geyer.
Keep supporting Jess and Ricky on their 1902 numbers or SMS JESSICA 191010 or RICKY 191010 after this Sunday's acoustic show as a Sydney Opera House gig continues to loom larger.
