Title: No Record Deal Yet :(

It's really suprising.
Shannon and Anthony both were signed up well before this amount of time had passed.
I was reading that Sony might not sign her because she's too much like Paulini.
spudnic - December 9, 2005 08:47 AM (GMT)
That's hard to believe...I read on another post she had been signed up the day after the final...you don't know what to believe anymore...very surprising to say the least...
I know for a fact she was in talks with BMG- cause her and Kate mentioned it on a channel 10 interview- the day after the final. :ph43r:
kittykat - December 9, 2005 09:35 AM (GMT)
:thinks you would of thought they would of signed her before Lee though !
starry_meme - December 9, 2005 01:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah....
i hope she gets signed and shows BMG what they missed out on...
unless of course they sign her...
GO EM!!
Jen21 - December 9, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
It's just wrong if Emily doesn't get signed :(
Surely if Sony/BMG don't bother, someone else will... especially after Ricki Lee's success lately on an independent label. :)
Rhonda - December 9, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Maybe she should go where Ricki did..
Merna - December 10, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
That's not fair...
I want to understand how on earth is she anything like Paulini..?
I can't even compare the two... they are totally different!

AUSTRALIAN IDOL #3: LEE HARDING GETS SIGNED
SonyBMG has signed a runner-up in this year's "Oz Idol", Lee Harding. His first single "Wasabi" goes to radio this week and is in the shops before Christmas. Interestingly, while runner up Emily Williams was tipped to be also picked up by SonyBMG, sources suggest that musically she's too close to SonyBMG act Paulini. |
What a load of rubbish!

I thought I had read that somewhere too! Thank you for showing it so I know it wasn't just in my mind! lol

kittykat - December 10, 2005 06:05 AM (GMT)
confused? does this mean she is being signed or isn't?
was that report false or ?
Tracee - December 10, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
Kitty,
I read it as meaning that Emily hasn't and won't be signed by Sony/BMG, because they consider her to be too "like" Paulini in musical style.
There is still time for her to be signed with them though should they want to take her on. They have the sole option on her until 21st Feb, 2006 and after that it is anyones ballgame.

ahh yes that is how it works, I remember now, they did this last year with Courtney too.
Hmm... oh well I guess there is still time, although I do not understand for the life of me how they can justify signing the 3rd place getter before the second place getter. Makes no sense at all. * confusing*
Thanks for that Tracee :D

Hey Kitty and all!! :waves
I reckon they struck while the iron was hot and signed Lee because no matter if you like his style or not, in the scheme of things he IS "original", in a sense that you don't really see solo performers doing his style of music. He fills a niche in the marketplace both in Australia and internationally that has not been tapped until now so it is a truly viable option for Sony/BMG to have signed him.
Re the Emily/Paulini thing? I don't see it personally either, except for the fact that Paulini's roots are in the R&B genre, as are Emily's.
Remember though that Cosima had to do it herself too and I believe Cosima and Emily are more alike in style than Paulini and Emily are. It shows in their song choices performed on the respective Idol series' they were in. If I remember correctly, Emily did 5 or 6 of the songs Cosima covered, if not more.

kittykat - December 10, 2005 07:38 AM (GMT)
yes she did sing so many of the same songs as Cosima, and I agree with your view of the sony thing btw :D makes sense when you think of it from a marketing and business perspective. Clever clogs! :D
Tracee - December 10, 2005 08:13 AM (GMT)
lmao :dance <--- *imagine the little guy with a dutch peaked cap and clogs*
Oh the mind may be preoccupied these days with other stuff but the marketing cogs spin constantly regardless, Kitty! lol
I do hope that someone picks up her option post 21/2/2006 even if Sony/BMG doesn't, because her fans obviously want to hear her.
I have seen fans of Natalie Zarha have got a petition together, so perhaps Emily's fans should try too? Can't hurt, can it?
Tracee :)
kittykat - December 10, 2005 08:21 AM (GMT)
It's a great idea re petition, although not sure how much attention sony will pay to those things myself. But I guess it all helps.
:D I'm sure she wll get a recording contrcat though, I recall Holden saying she had an international recording voice. He and Marcia are probably likely to pull a few strings for her if Sony/BMG dont come up with anything. :)

I've read in previous posts else where, you come across 'Lee types' all the times in the pub scene-(I suppose to all those kiddies who don't hang around pubs-he would be original :P )- sure they are not solo- but Lee has always made it clear he wants to with a band...interesting though they decided to give him a go over Em...personally I would have gone with Em, but maybe SBMG wants to tap into the 'punk wiggles' genre... :D
Merna - December 13, 2005 11:27 PM (GMT)
Has anyone heard anything on her yet guys???
Lea - December 14, 2005 12:47 AM (GMT)
No...but even if Sony/BMg don't want to sign her, I imagine that some other record company will snap her up when the 'Idol Contract' runs out.
Rhonda - December 14, 2005 01:48 AM (GMT)
Just when does that contract run out.
It used to be after the Idol tour, but by all accounts they are not touring this year. So when does the contract run out I wonder.
Lea - December 14, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
^ I heard early January...but if that's true or just a rumor I couldn't say.

Rhonda,
The contracts run out on 21st February, 2006.
I was actually wondering if Mark Holden would personally put his money where his mouth is and give her a "leg up" with a deal through through MarJac Productions. (his Co.)He was her most avid fan and all! It will be interesting to see if he does.
Tracee..xx
Damo_77 - December 14, 2005 11:04 AM (GMT)
I can't see why he wouldn't give her that "leg up" you mentioned, because although I didn't like her personally, she has a huge following and as you've said in a previous post, it's obvious that her fans want to hear her again so she'd be a great haul for whoever should sign her to their label
