ALBURY’S Lisa Mitchell represents the most dramatic change in the history of Australian Idol, according to an article published on the show’s official website.

Mitchell reveals that if it had not been for the show’s revived format, which this year enables contestants to craft their own songs in the show’s recording studio, she would have never auditioned.

“When I’ve been watching it in the past few years, I’ve always thought I really wouldn’t want to do that,” she said.

“But when you actually try out you see how amazing it is.”

The 16-year-old is compared to Australian music sensation Missy Higgins.

“I remember I went and saw her in concert and I didn’t even move, I was just watching her gob-smacked,” she said.

“I just thought it would be so cool to be able to do that.”

The article portrays the singer-songwriter as having “a crystal-clear view of the music industry and her own set of ambitions”.

It also talks about her rise from performing small gigs in Albury cafes to wandering on one of the nation’s most renowned stages.

“It’s what you do at home normally but now it’s on a national scale,” Mitchell said of her Idol experience.

“It makes you feel like you’re doing the right thing, that you’re going to be able to give people something that they’re going to want and love.

“It’s a good feeling.”

Mitchell said she had done some song writing while in Idol-lockdown.

She said she is pleased to be a part of a group of artists who were opening Idol to a broader audience.
