Lee Harding signs with Sony; Emily misses out

Wednesday, November 30 2005

One of this year’s most exciting and energetic Australian Idol finalists Lee Harding has signed a recording deal with SONY BMG Music Entertainment.

Lee’s first infectious single Wasabi was delivered to Australian radio stations yesterday with incredible reaction around the country.

Lee, who is now just as well known for his individual hairstyles as much as his charismatic and lovable nature says “I am really proud to be signed to SONY BMG, it’s home to some of the coolest bands, I cant wait to get into the studio and record the album, to all my fans Rock hard, Rock out & Rock on”.

Denis Handlin, Chairman & CEO SONY BMG Music Australia & NZ adds “We are thrilled to have signed such an enthusiastic young talent, l am really impressed with Lee’s commitment and determination and l know he has an exciting career ahead of him”.

Wasabi will be released as a double A- side single with Lee’s own gritty & rocking take of the 1982 Survivor smash hit Eye of the Tiger. The clip for Wasabi will be shot this week and is expected to be a high energy video shot in stop- motion animation.

Wasabi is released December 11 and will be the first taste of what is to come for Lee with his debut album (yet to be titled) due for release early February 2006 through SONY BMG Music Entertainment.

Themusic.com.au also reports that sources say that SonyBMG won't be signing runner up Emily Williams citing the reason that she is too similar to SonyBMG artist, Paulini.

Idol punk debuts
From: From Sydney Confidential
November 30, 2005

LEE Harding, the latest Australian Idol to be signed by label Sony-BMG, likes his girls hot like Wasabi.

The Melbourne singer, who SonyBMG says landed the contract after an overwhelming audience response, has just released his debut single.
Called Wasabi, it's a red-hot rock tune echoing punkers Good Charlotte.

"It's about a girl who's hot like wasabi," Harding told Confidential.

Considering their denials that they pashed after the ARIAs a few weeks ago, we're gathering he's talking about his girlfriend and not Christy from Big Brother

Lee Harding Signs Up + Unleashes Wasabi!
Known as much for his wacky hair as his lovable nature and high-voltage rock performances, the one and only Lee Harding has joined the Sony BMG family and unleashed his killer debut single 'Wasabi' to radio. The double A-side, also featuring his crazy version of 'Eye Of The Tiger', hits stores on December 11. Take a listen...
He won over an army of Idol fans in 2005 with his zany 'tropical fish' hair, lovable, charismatic nature and high-voltage rock performances. Now the one and only Lee Harding has signed a recording with Sony BMG Australia, and unleashed his scorching and completely infectious debut single, 'Wasabi', to radio.

"I am really proud to be signed to SONY BMG, it's home to some of the coolest bands, I can't wait to get into the studio and record the album," says Lee. "To all my fans: rock hard, rock out & rock on!"

Denis Handlin, Chairman & CEO SONY BMG Music Australia & NZ adds, "We are thrilled to have signed such an enthusiastic young talent, I am really impressed with Lee's commitment and determination and I know he has an exciting career ahead of him."

i could only find this on the net:

Not winning Australian Idol might just have been the best thing to happen to Lee Harding. After all, can you imagine running out to buy his rendition of "Maybe Tonight", the power ballad now made famous by winner Kate DeAraugo? Nope? Neither can Lee!

"I was worried at the start that (the song) would alienate my fan base, being that it's so totally different to what I had been playing," says Lee, who recorded a "Green Day-ish ballad-style" rendition of the song while he was still in the competition. "I really didn't want people to hear the single if I won and be like, 'You've got to be joking! This is what his music is going to be like?!' "

But now fans will have a chance to see what Lee is really made of when his debut single, "Wasabi", hits stores on December 12.

To find out more, including why Lee is making his pre-Idol band audition for their old jobs again, buy this week's issue of TV WEEK.
