Ingenious answer, Ricki-Lee

NOTHING like brutal honesty. Australian Idol finalist in 2004 and Young Diva Ricki-Lee Coulter knows she's not the brightest kid on the block.

That's why she turned down the chance to be on Channel 10's game show Australia's Brainiest Musician last year, and Australia's Brainiest Australian Idol this year.

Instead, she left the honours to fellow Diva Kate DeAraugo, who didn't fare so well either.

"I said: 'No way', when they asked me to be involved," she says. "Lucky, because I tried to answer the questions and I was hopeless."

Regardless, she's still a smart cookie when it comes to career choices.

Touring with Kate and other past Idol finalists Emily Williams and Paulini, Ricki-Lee says the Divas tour is so far a huge success.

"Our shows are sold out almost everywhere. We're having so much fun. For us, it's about putting on a fantastic show," she says.

And while the fame is enjoyable, she says it's certainly not going to their heads.

"In no way do we think we're divas, the whole show is about paying tribute to some of the greatest divas in the industry and showing spectacular vocals," she says.

However, the tight schedule has taken its toll on the 20-year-old star, with her voice giving out during the Melbourne leg of the tour last week.

"I had to give my parts to the other girls and just join in the chorus, but that's the best part about working in such a good group, we're flexible and help each other out."

Ricki-Lee was in town yesterday for the Sportsgirl Roadshow summer fashion launch. The Young Divas will perform at the Norwood Concert Hall this Friday and Saturday night in Adelaide.

And before you think her Idol dream is over when the tour is - Ricki-Lee is putting out a new solo album next year.

Sony sure like to work their artists hard!
