Andrew G, Co-host of Australian Idol, is much more than a television presenter - his longstanding involvement in music makes him the perfect Idol master of ceremonies.

Imagine a new type of superhero: a Trojan who has crawled across the filthy stages of rock venues, a placid sex-symbol who is so empathetic that he even refuses to consume animals, a magically gifted radio and television personality who has survived graveyard shifts and music television to be nominated for that esteemed trophy of entertainment glory (a Silver Logie); a determined musician who tirelessly searches for his own musical Holy Grail. Imagine a statuesque blond warrior of pop culture, protecting his charge of Idol contestants as he holds a skateboard in one hand and brandishes a veggie burger in the other. That man is probably Andrew G.

Andrew started his journey early, surviving the horror of school orchestras, adding warmth to the harmonies of barbershop choirs, splitting the atoms of music theory, performing in a multitude of bands and risking his life (and liver) as a roadie.

But Andrew G was not content with the pursuit of rock stardom, soon realising that he possessed a talent for helping his fellow performers. As the reckless driver of a Black Thunder van, our hero soon developed a repore with everyday punters and honed his trademark voice as a long-suffering midnight to dawn announcer on Brisbane's B105 radio station. Andrew learnt many useful skills as disc jockey. It wasn't long before he developed a natural talent for talking while being completely unconscious, he learnt how painful an electric shock is when your top lip is the conductor and he discovered what Glen 20 tasted like.

Armed with a set-list of communication and music skills, Andrew realised he knew the secret formula for scoring a job on Pay TV's Channel [V]. That's right, he simply asked for one. Using traditional strengths - initiative and audacity - Andrew grabbed a video camera, conducted a tour of his hood, and sent the results to Channel V executives. The rest, as they say, is history. Soon our champion was hosting the top-rating Whatuwant program and gaining a massive following of [V] fans.

That's when Andrew G's life took an unexpected twist. Known to thousands of Pay TV viewers, the heart-throb suddenly burst onto the Free-TV scene as the co-host of our entertainment industry’s glittering prize: Australian Idol.

Yes, Andrew G is a new type of superhero but he needs no cape or well-developed pectoral muscles. Andrew’s superpowers are sympathy and understanding. As Australian Idol Series 4 unfolds, you can be sure that our friendly co-host will protect Idol hopefuls and keep the dream alive.
