Punk wannabe set to soldier on

IT'S not often reality TV stars feature in government press releases, but then it's not every day faux-punkster Lee Harding prepares to fly into war-torn Iraq to entertain our troops.

With the rigorous military training complete, Harding and his Bedrock bandmates fly out of Australia today headed for Camp Smitty in southern Iraq.
Harding said he was expecting the two-week trip to be life-changing.

"It's one of those opportunities you wouldn't get in normal life and I am so, so thankful I get to do it," the 23-year-old said.

"I can't believe I am doing this. I have never ever been overseas and my first time is to do this. It's very exciting."

Harding and band will be joined by comedian Clint Paddison and country music singers Nicki Gillis and Stacey Morris.

The Australian Idoler said he was looking forward to roughing it on the tour.

"I can't wait to be flying in the Black Hawk helicopters and armed vehicles that hammer through the towns," he said.

"We get to sleep where the Diggers sleep and eat where the Diggers eat."

The tour's commanding officer, Lt-Col Greg McCauley, said celebrity entertainment was essential in keeping up morale in the Middle East
