Surprise visit from an Idol

How do you get to be an Australian idol winner? Were you nervous? Who was your favourite judge? Just how many people did you have to beat to be on Australian Idol?
These were some of the questions fielded by Australian Idol star Casey Donovan during her visit to Cowra Public School this week, as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Hundreds of students had the chance to meet the girl that captured the attention of the country and hear some of Casey's songs, new and old.

Although Casey's roller coaster ride to fame with Australian Idol is now two years old, the students were just as excited as when she was 16 years old and performing on their television screens.

The young star, although a bit amazed at the cold of a frosty Cowra morning, spent hours with the students, sharing her experiences in life so far.

They learnt about her songwriting, the influence of her family, her favourite music and the training she has undergone to expand her vocal range even further. Her next album is on its way.

Casey's visit was part of NAIDOC week celebrations amongst Cowra's younger community, which stretched throughout the week, ending today. She also visited Yalbillinga Boori Day Care centre.

Helen Wilson, Cowra Public School, said the children were inspired by Casey's message of holding on to your dreams.

"It was a really special gift to give to the children, to come up and spend time with the kids here, considering her very busy schedule. She was able to relate so easily with them."

NAIDOC celebrates the survival of Indigenous culture and the Indigenous contribution to modern Australia. All Australians are encouraged to participate in NAIDOC Week activities.

Casey has really become very good at public speaking now. She has matured so much.

Yes i remember Rhond :P She hardly replied to questions, she used 2 just nod or give a one word answer :lol: She's heaps good now!
